Dear Mercer County Democrats,
As I embark on this incredible journey to represent Ohio’s 5th Congressional District at the Democratic National Convention, I am reminded of the many people who have brought me to this moment. From the early days of strategizing my candidacy with friends like Phil, Eric, and Kelly, to the heartfelt support of our entire executive committee, this journey has never been mine alone. It belongs to all of us who believe in the power of democratic values and the American dream.
This journey also brings back memories of another bus ride from my childhood, traveling with my mother to visit family in Mexico. Back then, I was just a wide-eyed kid, excited about the adventure ahead. Today, I step into the convention center with that same excitement, but also with the responsibility of advocating for those who deserve the opportunity to live the American dream—just as my parents did.
I invite you to follow along with my experiences this week, to see firsthand the passion and dedication that fuels our movement. Together, we can make a difference. Feel free to follow on Facebook or via the web.
Yesterday was the first day of the convention, and as I sat in the labor caucus, I was moved by the stories of everyday Americans—people just like us—who work tirelessly to build a better future for their families and communities. Their stories are our stories. We are the middle class, striving to keep our children safe, healthy, and in good schools, while holding onto the dream of a democracy that works for all of us. We heard from many leaders, my voice is nearly gone, and my hands hurt from clapping… But there is much more work to do!
As we move forward, I ask for your continued support for our local Democratic Party. Your contributions and involvement is crucial in ensuring that we continue to fight for the values we all hold dear. Let’s keep the momentum going, not just for today, but for the future of our community and our country.
Thank you for believing in me and for standing with us as we work toward a better tomorrow.
Warm regards,
Sophia Rodriguez, Chair
Mercer County Democrats
